Windsurf was a strong agentic IDE with one of the best multi-step editing workflows available. However, its acquisition by Cognition Labs in July 2025 fundamentally changes the calculus — it is no longer an independently developed product, and its capabilities are being folded into Devin. Existing users can continue using it, but new users should look at Devin or Cursor instead. This is an entry in transition, not a product with its own long-term roadmap.
